The Residences At The Miami Beach Edition
by , February 15, 2013
Planned for its grand opening in the first quarter of 2014, Ian Schrager’s The Residences at the Miami Beach Edition will be far more than just a 250-room luxury hotel. In fact, his latest project, replacing the Seville Beach hotel on Collins Avenue, will include high-end residences, restaurants, a night club, bowling alley, and an ice skating rink. The 11-story building will house the residential units on the top two floors and will consist of 26 high-end apartment homes designed by renowned architect John Pawson.
Each residence will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, teak wood flooring throughout the indoor, balcony, and terrace areas, open Bulthaup kitchens and “outdoor rooms,” which give space for pools, outdoor kitchens and dining areas, fireplaces, and pergolas, each designed by Pawson. Even outdoor gyms are an option given the lavish external space; all with a panoramic ocean, bay, or city view. Each unit also comes tailor-made to each resident’s preferences regarding color palette, materials, furniture and décor, and art installations.
Each one- to four-bedroom apartment offers all of the expected services and amenities of a private resort but without the need for the management and maintenance of the property. Indeed, so confident is Ian Schrager in the idea of Miami as a residential city (rather than just a resort destination) that he will personally own one of the apartments himself. Sister Editions to The Residences at Miami Beach are already announced in London, New York, Bangkok, Abu Dhabi, Los Angeles, and Indian, with one already open in Istanbul.
Schrager comments, “The hotel and residences are kind of dedicated to the good life and to make staying in Miami really easy and effortless and make it the art of living rather than the job of living. Now I think Miami is no longer just a vacation city. It’s is an international 24-hour gateway city that people all around the world want to live in.”

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
