**A Brief History of Midtown Condo Life and Where It’s Headed**

Midtown’s story is quite similar to its neighboring locales. This former rail yard was a ghost town used for storing shipping containers, overrun by homeless drug addicts and blight. But, with Miami native Joe Cayre and New York-based partners Midtown Equities scooping up 56 acres for $34 million, Midtown would see better days.

While construction began on the Midtown development in 2005, it wasn’t immune to the 2007 real estate bust which ended up stalling the project for a while. Help from the city in millions of dollars as tax breaks as well as the ability to wait out the meltdown turned this blank canvas into a sprawling mall (read The Shops at Midtown Miami) and hotspot for future luxury residential developments.

  
Today, most of Midtown’s residential spaces are made up of units built after 2005. Midtown condos are in high demand and this evolving neighborhood is home to up-and-coming luxury high-rises as well as office buildings.
