Life in Midtown

Midtown is dominated by an increasing number of upscale condos accented by refreshing tropical flora. Luxury condo towers to high-end condos perched atop popular eateries and stores define its urban landscape. Known for its fresh architecture, the dog-friendly neighborhood offers a variety of stylish floor plans with modern amenities that lend them a unique Midtown flavor. You’ll also find a fair amount of businesses parked in offices in the mixed-use condo buildings.

With an easy-going vibe, this pedestrian-friendly, pocket-sized neighborhood is home to worthwhile eateries and middlebrow retailers. Colorful walls, outdoor cafés, artisanal bakeries, fine noshing and shopping options, all stand ready for your walking shoes.

The Shops at Midtown Miami is where most locals spend casual weekends. It’s where you’d run a few errands, shop for budget-friendly necessities to pricey indulgences, get a Super Cuts, and cool off with great food and drink options.

Fresh is the motto when it comes to Midtown’s epicurean culture. Just walk down any street to find a fine selection of cheese mongers, wine connoisseurs, cafés, butchers and bakers to satisfy a craving any time of day. Miamians from across the city flock to the neighborhood after work for their dose of sundowners at any of the craft bars and lounges.

Being Wynwood’s neighbor certainly rubs off, as you find creative expression and pop art peeking out of corners and splashed across backrests. Special installations and exhibits are peppered across town in a compelling indoor-outdoor setting. Come Art Basel week, Midtown becomes home to sister fairs Art Miami and CONTEXT Art – where the former is an international contemporary and modern art fair, while the latter is dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging to mid-career artists.

Neighborhood Favorites

Anything but mediocre, Midtown is for those looking to escape Miami’s wild side and yet, enjoy casual shopping, wining, dining and leisurely strolls.

Shop – Shop till you drop with 26 acres dedicated to The Shops at Midtown Miami. This outdoor shopping mall houses local as well as international favorites such as Target, Homegoods, Marshall’s, Foot Locker, Loehmann’s, Guess, Ross Dress for Less, Party City, Nordstrom  Rack, West Elm and more. You are also a short walk away from both Wynwood’s and Design District’s offerings.

Eat – Locally-made craft food rules the roost here. The Cheese Course is for times when you crave finesse with a glass of wine and cheese board in the middle of a secret garden. For a serious grilled cheese head to the Daily Melt. Latteria Italiana serves the best gelato in town. While the Sakaya Kitchen dishes up amazing Korean fare, Black Brick puts a Floridian twist on Chinese food. Novecento is all about live DJs, Argentine, Mediterranean and Pan-Latin cuisines with great wines to down it all. Salumeria 104 is where you’ll find fantastic Italian fare. And, for some tropical surf n’ turf styled food and drink, the Hurricane Grill & Wings is your best bet. And all these are just an elevator ride away and steps outside of your Midtown condo.

Drink – The Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill resto-lounge from the SushiSamba team tops the list with its eclectic small plates and great happy hours. The all-Italian Bocce Bar lets you eat, drink and play the game it’s named after. The Wine Vault brings an intimate Spanish wine bar experience with happy hours to uplift the spirits. While Ricochet is for stiff drinks and live music, Blackbird Ordinary is an extraordinary late-night lounge. As for World of Beer, the name says it all. And the best thing is that you don’t need a designated driver to get back to your condo, just your two feet.

Midtown Boundaries

Midtown is roughly bound by the I-95, N. Miami Avenue, NE 27th street, East Coast Avenue and NE 2nd Avenue. Its neighbors are Wynwood, Edgewater, Design District, Upper East Side, and Buena Vista.

Public Transit Options – Midtown is serviced by the Metrobus. The Miami Trolley system connects it to Brickell, Downtown and the Design District.

A Brief History of Midtown Condo Life and Where It’s Headed

Midtown’s story is quite similar to its neighboring locales. This former rail yard was a ghost town used for storing shipping containers, overrun by homeless drug addicts and blight. But, with Miami native Joe Cayre and New York-based partners Midtown Equities scooping up 56 acres for $34 million, Midtown would see better days.

While construction began on the Midtown development in 2005, it wasn’t immune to the 2007 real estate bust which ended up stalling the project for a while. Help from the city in millions of dollars as tax breaks as well as the ability to wait out the meltdown turned this blank canvas into a sprawling mall (read The Shops at Midtown Miami) and hotspot for future luxury residential developments.

Today, most of Midtown’s residential spaces are made up of units built after 2005. Midtown condos are in high demand and this evolving neighborhood is home to up-and-coming luxury high-rises as well as office buildings.
